A MESSAGE FROM CHIEF ITCHY DOG
I don’t have time for this. Like many dads of Shawnee Princesses, I’ve told myself that a hundred
times. We Shawnee dads have a lot in common: We work too hard and stress too much.
We’re too busy at work. Or struggling to find work. Or keeping our businesses afloat in tough times.
But the thing we have most in common is this: We love our daughters. So the Princess program
saves us: It gets our girls on our calendars. We check the clubhouse meeting schedule. We
huddle with our daughters and pick the campouts and events that sound most exciting, memorable
or affordable. The girls get excited. The dads get their Blackberries and block out the dates.

The time arrives. And for a glorious day or two we are swept away with our daughters. We power
down our cell phones and realize, “There is nowhere more important to be right now.”
This will be a magical year for the Shawnee: We will sing, dance, bowl, march in a parade, sleep in
tents and help the less fortunate. We’ll celebrate the history of American Indians. Girls will find
mentors. Dads will help each other out. We’ll string beads, build things and earn patches.
But mostly it will be a magical year because your little girl is a little girl this year. And you will be
there with her.

A MESSAGE FROM PRINCESS BUTTERFLY DREAMER, age 8

I want this year to be really fun. I want to spend time with my Daaaaddy! And my friends.
And I hope I will meet lots of new ones. I will tell new members that there are lots of fun campouts.
And there are also events that will blow your mind! And meetings. We talk about things,
and we do arts and crafts. When the girls start doing their weird dances it gets really funny!
My best memory is when we were at Camp Surf in the waves that were giant. And at the end, I was
freeeeezing!

So NOW, join the Shawnee Princesses!
